Christy Neher, MA, MS, LPC
Christy Neher is a licensed professional counselor, and an individual/couples counseling and coaching specialist at Dallas Whole Life Counseling. She is currently an instructor at Brookhaven College, where she has taught Sociology and Psychology classes, and initiated a Single Parents Support Group. Christy holds two graduate degrees: an M.A. in Human Sciences and an M.S. in Marriage and Family Therapy from Our Lady of the Lake University. Before entering private practice, Christy worked for Dallas area non-profit agencies providing individual and group counseling to adults, teens, and children struggling with domestic violence, incest recovery and substance abuse issues.
Christy is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), a psychotherapy approach that has been extensively researched and proven effective for the treatment of trauma.Incorporating elements from many different treatment approaches, EMDR has helped an estimated two million people of all ages relieve many types of psychological stress
Christy is a strong believer in the concept of holistic healing, which considers the whole person throughout the therapy process, examining the interplay of the client’s physical, mental, emotional and spiritual states. In addressing each of these aspects through therapy and coaching, Christy helps clients bring the self back into balance, and to achieve well-rounded personal, career and relationship goals.
Christy believes her clients are the only true “experts” when it comes to their own lives. Her role is to facilitate a therapeutic conversation, helping clients realize what aspects of their lives are within their control, what aspects are not, then form a clear, concrete plan for moving past obstacles toward new levels of happiness and success. In Christy’s view, therapy is an opportunity for the client to “practice” healthy expressions of thoughts and feelings that they can take back into their everyday interactions.
Hope...More than anything, Christy believes that hope is the driving force behind healing. Hope offers clients the ability to see options—and to find satisfying solutions.
Outside of counseling, Christy enjoys running, writing, reading and cooking, as well as simply spending quality time with her friends and family.
