Dallas Whole Life Counseling offers counseling in Spanish as well as English. Cecilia Briseno is a bilingual (English and Spanish) licensed clinical social worker, specializing in issues relevant to Latino individuals, couples and families. Latinos who migrate to the United States often experience challenges adjusting to a new culture. Cultural differences in marriage and parenting can lead to stress at home. Sometimes multiple generations are involved, further complicating the adjustment process. Spanish-speaking families, and individuals within those families, may experience relationship strains and crises of identity.
In working with Latino clients, Cecilia helps address a variety of issues:
- Family conflict
- Immigration concerns
- Parenting issues
- Communication problems
- Poor self-esteem
- Behavioral issues
- Grief and loss
- Work-related stress
- Financial worries
- Acculturation issues
- Assimilation issues
In addition to matching Latino individuals, couples and families with a Spanish-speaking therapist, Dallas Whole Life Counseling provides a culturally sensitive treatment environment. We help Latino clients maximize their strengths, such as a strong work ethic, family values and spiritual beliefs. We respect the Latino emphasis on family, and often incorporate one or more family members in counseling when appropriate.
- Initial intake (60 minute session) — $80
- Follow-up meetings (50 minute sessions) — $80
Note: These fees apply regardless of the meeting format. Treatment for individuals, couples and families are for the same rate-per-session.
Cecilia Briseno, M.S., LCSW
Cecilia Briseno is a bilingual (English and Spanish) licensed clinical social worker specializing in the treatment of Latino individuals, couples, families and children. Cecilia completed both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in social work at the University of Texas at Arlington. She then studied Marriage in Family Therapy through the Texas Women’s University doctoral program. Cecilia emphasizes Solution Focused Therapy, as she finds it to be effective within a broad range of issues. Solution Focused Therapy is especially effective in breaking complex problems and circumstances into concrete, specific action steps. SFT emphasizes practical solutions in the Here and Now. It is often a shorter-term therapy, known for facilitating powerful changes in just a handful of sessions. Providing the client with clear guidance and direction, SFT makes use of the client’s natural strengths, abilities and talents, while also helping them overcome various challenges and “blind spots.”
One of Cecilia’s areas of expertise is in working with families, as she believes the family system is essential to addressing many issues faced by her Latino clients. Parenting, family conflict and life transitions often cause considerable stress, as do issues surrounding the workplace and finances. Generational conflicts are common in many families, especially when younger generations have very different cultural influences than do older family members. Cecilia helps her clients first clearly define the nature of their challenges, then generate realistic goals toward a desired outcome. She regularly checks in with her clients, helping them stay on track with positive behaviors and attitudes. When her clients get stuck along the way, Cecilia helps them re-evaluate their perspective and approach, adjusting their behavior and expectations as appropriate. Her therapeutic style emphasizes warmth, compassion and non-judgment. Cultivating hope, motivation and self-reliance, Cecilia helps individuals, couples and families achieve new levels of success and satisfaction within their personal and professional lives.
