Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is an effective psychotherapy treatment for many mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), eating disorders, stress, and chronic pain. The underlying theory of ACT is that it is counterproductive to try to control the painful emotions or psychological at the core of many mental health issues. ACT works by encouraging patents to learn to accept their psychological experiences and uses mindfulness, personal values, and commitment to change negative behaviors and emotions.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) involves encouraging patients not to fight themselves, and instead learn better ways to respond and act.
By accepting the mental health issues—rather than avoiding, denying and struggling—patients learn to respond to trigger situations in healthy, appropriate ways.
At Dallas Whole Life Counseling, our psychologists and counselors use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy to treat a wide-range of mental health issues. Like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), ACT is a “talk therapy” and does not use medications (although it can sometimes be used in tandem with medications).
ACT is covered by most insurance policies as a mental health treatment. We offer in-network care through many common Texas insurers, including Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas, Medicare, Cigna, and United Healthcare, Optum and UMR.
There is no specific certification for practicing ACT, but many of our licensed counselors are skilled in using ACT to treat many conditions. For more information or to make an appointment, call us at (972) 755-0996 or use this form to make an appointment online.
