Many health insurance plans cover online therapy in Dallas when the service is included in your mental health benefits and you see an eligible, in-network provider. Your out-of-pocket cost depends on your specific plan, including your deductible, copay or coinsurance, and any applicable coverage requirements.
Every plan is different, though. Below you will find which plans we accept, how to check your own benefits, and what to do if your plan is not on our list. Many people tell us that not knowing what a session would cost was the last thing holding them back, so we would rather answer that question up front.
Plans We Accept
Dallas Whole Life Counseling is in-network with these insurance plans:
- Aetna
- Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas (HMO and PPO)
- Cigna
- Medicare Part B
- United Healthcare (HMO and PPO)
- UMR
- Optum
Not every therapist on our team is in-network with every plan. One therapist may take Aetna while another takes Cigna. When you book, tell us which insurance you have, and we will match you with a therapist who accepts it.
How To Check Your Specific Coverage

Your insurer is the only one who can confirm exactly what your plan pays. The quickest way is to call the number on the back of your insurance card and ask:
- Do I have outpatient mental health benefits?
- Do I have a deductible, and how much of it have I met?
- Is my cost a copay or coinsurance, and how much is it?
- Are telehealth (online) visits covered the same as in-person visits?
- Is there a limit on the number of sessions, or do I need prior approval?
Calling an insurer can take a while, and if your workdays are packed, it can feel like one more errand. That is one reason we check your benefits for you when you schedule your first appointment. Our insurance coverage also shows which carriers we work with and what they cover.
If fitting therapy around your workday is a concern, you can also read our guide to online therapy for busy Dallas professionals for practical ways virtual sessions can fit into a demanding schedule.
What If You Are Out of Network or Prefer Private Pay?
If your plan is not on our list, you still have options.

Out-of-network Benefits
Many plans reimburse part of the cost when you see a provider outside their network. Our administrative team files the claim for you, so you do not have to track the paperwork. You pay for each session in full at the time of service, and your insurance company reimburses you directly after it processes the claim. Benefits vary a lot from plan to plan. When you call your insurer, ask about “out-of-network” benefits for “outpatient mental health.”
Private Pay
If you do not have insurance, or you would rather not use it, we offer a sliding scale based on your financial situation. Sessions start as low as $100. Current pricing is on our rates page, and the price is the same for virtual and in-person sessions.
Is Online Therapy Billed Differently From In-Person?

In general, no. A virtual session is the same kind of appointment with the same licensed Texas therapist, held over video instead of in an office. We use the same approaches in both formats, including CBT, ACT, and psychodynamic therapy, so choosing online therapy does not mean settling for a lesser version of care.
Virtual sessions can also remove barriers that have nothing to do with the therapy itself. Someone with social anxiety, for example, may find the waiting room harder than the session. We go into that in our guide to online therapy for social anxiety in Dallas.
Some plans do have their own telehealth rules, which is why it is worth asking your insurer whether online visits are covered the same as in-person ones.
Who You Will Be Working With

Dallas Whole Life Counseling is a group practice of more than ten credentialed clinicians, including counselors, psychologists, and marriage and family therapists. Our team is licensed in Texas, and we have been serving the Dallas and Fort Worth area since 1999. The practice was co-founded by Dr. Heather Robbins, PhD, LP, and James Robbins, MA, LPC.
Choosing a therapist is a personal decision. Our Find a Counselor tool can help you find someone who fits your needs, preferences, and insurance.
How To Book Your First Virtual Session In Dallas

Booking takes a few minutes:
- Make an appointment online or call (972) 755-0996.
- Tell us your insurance so we can match you with an in-network therapist and check your benefits.
- Choose a time. We can often see new clients within about three days, and we offer evening and weekend appointments.
- Log in from a private space at home, at work, or anywhere in Texas.
Virtual sessions also work well for people who cannot easily leave the house, such as parents of a newborn. If you would rather meet face to face, we also have an in-person office at Dallas Galleria Tower One. Just tell us which you prefer when you book.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does insurance cover online therapy the same as in-person?
Generally yes. Most plans that cover outpatient mental health care also cover telehealth visits, often at the same copay or coinsurance. Details vary by plan, so confirm with your insurer or ask us to check for you.
Which insurance plans do you accept?
We are in-network with Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas, Cigna, Medicare Part B, United Healthcare, UMR, and Optum. Not every therapist accepts every plan, so tell us your insurance when you book, and we will match you with the right person.
How much is online therapy without insurance?
We offer a sliding scale based on your financial situation, starting as low as $100 per session. The price is the same for virtual and in-person sessions.
Do I need a referral?
Usually not. Most people can book directly without a referral from a doctor. Some plans have their own requirements, so ask your insurer if you are unsure.
How do I start?
Book online or call (972) 755-0996. Tell us your insurance and whether you prefer virtual or in-person sessions, and we will take it from there.
