Fear and anger are at the core of every negative human emotion, thought and behavior. Depression and anxiety. Financial worries. Relationship struggles and family drama. Health issues, aging and various addictions. Each of these comes down to one of two things:
- Fear of someone taking something from you in the future.
- Anger toward someone for taking something from you in the past.
This is why I say most human suffering involves Time Traveling Disorder. Have you noticed how the Terrible Awful Thing rarely happens in the Here and Now? It’s always something that happened in the past, or something that may happen in the future. So your mind runs backward or forward in time to meet this imagined threat. The problem is, your life happens now, and only now. Can you settle into the present moment, with its many unknowns and uncertainties, and simply be?
